In the course of Internet evolution, the cumulative weblog has supplanted the relatively static personal web page as proof of presence. Not much difference in functionality, really, except that the blog is a bit easier to update and maintain (no FTP or HTML coding required). Unfortunately, although blog technology is hardly revolutionary, it seems to have raised the clash of opinions to deafening noise levels, forcing every serious warrior of words to deploy a blog to avoid being buried beneath mountains of prose generated by legions of self-styled pundits.
