Keeping mentally active is essential for our mental health and can help protect us from cognitive decline or dementia. There are many ways to keep your brain active and protected. These include participating in classes, interacting with others, and engaging in regular physical and mental challenges.

If you're a working professional, it can be helpful to take some classes or training through work or in combination with continuing education requirements. If you have some extra time, you can even take up a mentally challenging new hobby. In fact, although psychomotor speed tends to decline, general intelligence increases throughout the lifetime, barring health impacts. That’s the big “if”. The bottom line is that the foundation of all cognitive ability is sound physical health.
