Our bodies are our interface into the physical realm, but we have to be careful not to become trapped by them. Environmental wear and tear, along with poor maintenance can cause our bodies to become degraded and heavy, limiting our physical and mental perceptions and abilities. As we undergo our detox journey, let’s focus on the benefits of life-giving water and how we can insure that the water we incorporate into our daily routines is of the highest quality. It’s imperative to improve the quality of the water we have access to in our household. Right now, much of it is a toxic soup, and either severely damaged or dead.
Water is an extremely powerful life-giving source but some of the more amazing qualities of water have been relatively unexplored until recently. The biological functions of water include its direct role in biochemical reactions, its role in regulating pH, its function as a metabolite, its role in cellular osmoregulation, and its role in cellular membranes. Water also plays a role in biomaterials science. It interacts with macromolecules such as proteins, drugs, cell membranes, and microemulsions.
Water plays a central role in all biological processes. It provides the turgor needed for cellular structures and provides the necessary pressure to tissues. Water also acts as a lubricant in joints and is an important component of the lymphatic system. Water plays a critical role in photosynthesis and fertilization. It supports the three-dimensional structure of the DNA double helix. It is also used in the hydrolysis reaction to release energy from the biological molecule ATP. Water is essential for the growth and survival of all living organisms. Most of us already know at least some of this (and take much of it for granted!).
Spiritual Significance
Throughout history, water has been a source of spiritual significance for humankind. The spiritual significance of water is rooted in its ability to reflect the spirit of humanity, which may be more literal than previously considered. This is exemplified in the Christian tradition. Water features in several significant passages of the Bible. The first chapter of Genesis portrays the Spirit of God moving over the waters. The story of the flood features water as a symbol of destruction. In some passages, water may have a more metaphorical significance but literal implications should not be overlooked. Water appears to be affected by not only words but intentions and as such is a medium of telesis.
